Summer brings different jobs to the same garden. Roses may be flowering while berries develop, vegetables grow and the lawn recovers from mowing. Choose fertilizer for each area by plant group, application method and growth stage. Compare pack sizes, calculate the quantity and prepare a purchase for the work ahead.

Choosing fertilizer for summer growth

Start with the plant and where it grows. Tomatoes in greenhouse soil, flowers in a hanging basket and berry bushes outdoors have different conditions. Then identify the current stage. Are the plants settling after transplanting, producing leaves, forming buds, flowering or developing fruit? Compare that stage with the complete instructions on the product page. If you have already applied another fertilizer, include its composition and application date when deciding what to buy next.

Work through one growing area at a time. Record its area or plant count and the intended application method. When one product is suitable for several areas under its instructions, add their requirements together before comparing packs. If more than one person cares for the garden, everyone can see which fertilizer has been bought and which plants it is intended for.

Your region, the weather and soil moisture

Select your region in Ukraine and check conditions in the actual growing area. After a shower, soil beneath a tree and potting mix under a roof may contain very different amounts of moisture. Sun, shelter and a warm wall also affect how quickly an area dries. Check where the roots are growing. A brief shower may wet the surface while leaving the soil below dry, so the appearance of the top layer alone is an unreliable guide.

When plants are stressed by heat and dry soil, address watering and assess their condition first. Applying fertilizer in hot, dry conditions can damage plants. Choose suitable conditions for the work and follow the selected product's application and watering instructions. Yellow leaves or weak growth can have several causes. Look at the root area, light and previous care before increasing the amount of fertilizer.

Lawns, conifers and ornamental planting

DÜNGER offers a complex fertilizer for lawn grasses with separate instructions for establishing a lawn, spring regrowth and care during vegetative growth. Choose the instruction that matches the current job. Before feeding in summer, check whether the grass is actively growing and has enough moisture. A lawn whose growth has slowed in heat and drought needs its growing conditions assessed before a feeding decision. Recent mowing alone does not tell you whether the lawn is ready.

The lawn fertilizer page lets you compare suitable options and read their instructions. For a quantity calculation, subtract paths, buildings and flower beds from the overall garden area. Save front and rear lawns separately if their conditions differ. This keeps the maintenance requirement of one area separate from the work needed to restore another.

For thuja, junipers and other conifers, consider the product for evergreen conifers. Its instructions take the plant's size and maturity into account. Count young planting separately from established plants. When a hedge contains plants of different heights, a single total plant count is insufficient to describe the requirement. Compare suitable products on the conifer care page, then record the measurements required by your chosen application method.

Vegetable beds, greenhouses and replacement crops

The vegetable range includes universal complexes, organic-mineral products and fertilizers for particular crops. When comparing them, check which stage each instruction describes. Soil preparation, transplanting and feeding an established crop may use different methods. Universal fertilizer and DÜNGER VIVO each have their own instructions. Calculate every option using its own composition and application guidance. Keep the packaging name in your purchase list so a later order can be matched to the same product.

For tomatoes and other vegetables, record whether the plants are in open ground or under cover. In a greenhouse, consider watering, ventilation and nutrients already added to the soil. A new crop going into a cleared bed should have its own entry, separate from crops that are already fruiting. This helps you review the previous application before choosing fertilizer for the next planting. The greenhouse range provides a starting point for comparing the relevant products.

Melons and related crops, as well as potatoes, have specific products in the range. Check the plant's stage against the entire application description before ordering. If the situation needs clarification, give the DÜNGER team the crop name, planting condition and previous applications. For controlled growing, include the substrate and nutrient solution in that information. These details help distinguish a straightforward repeat purchase from a change in the growing method that needs a different calculation.

Berries, fruit trees and grapes

Specialized fruit and berry complexes sit alongside universal products whose instructions cover relevant plant groups. Distinguish new planting from established plants. Strawberries may require a bed-area measurement, while bushes or trees may require their number and size. Keep those measurements in separate entries. Choose a shared pack only after calculating each area. This is useful when a small strawberry bed and a few mature bushes are part of the same order.

The blueberry range includes complexes for the first and later feeding stages. Check which stage has already passed and what was applied in spring before buying. Compare the full instructions on the blueberry fertilizer page. If leaves have changed colour, investigate roots and soil conditions as well. Leaf colour alone is insufficient to select a new fertilizer. Keep your previous product name and application record available when discussing the plants with the team.

For grapes, match the actual method and growth stage described for the selected product. A product's instructions may distinguish several crops and application methods. When buying for grapes, currants and raspberries together, record the requirement for each group. Then compare packs and check the quantity you already have. Opened packaging should retain its label so that its identity, instructions and storage conditions remain clear at the next use.

Flowers, containers and houseplants

Roses, lavender, peonies and hydrangeas may call for different products and timing. DÜNGER has specialized options for these groups. Choose by the plant and the stage described in the full instructions. The hydrangea, azalea and rhododendron product includes the condition “The soil should be moist during fertilization.” When calculating fertilizer for roses, account for the bush's size and age as required by its instructions.

Check hanging baskets and balcony boxes separately from garden beds. Their limited growing medium and position affect how quickly they dry. Review nutrients originally included in the potting mix and products added during the season. For houseplants, choose by plant group and actual growth. The specialized product's instructions specify healthy plants during growth. Compare the flower range and houseplant range, then select the appropriate method for the plants you have.

Choosing packs and preparing an order

Select an application method before entering the measurement required by that instruction. It might be area, plant count or another quantity. For a solution, distinguish concentrate from finished liquid. Check the units on the packaging. Once the requirement has been calculated, compare available pack sizes, the number of packs and the amount left over. For a repeat purchase, save the product name, pack size and growing areas in which you intend to use it.

For fields, nurseries and extensive planting, prepare the crop, area, soil analysis, previous applications and method of work. DÜNGER also offers bulk product lines and larger packages. Discuss composition, volume, the required date and delivery with the team. If ordering ahead, give your preferred receiving period. Before confirming the purchase, check the current price, availability, payment and dispatch arrangements. A seasonal plan provides a useful starting list for that discussion.

Questions about summer fertilizer purchases

Can plants be fed during hot weather?

Check soil moisture and plant condition first. If plants are affected by dry soil and intense heat, postpone feeding while addressing watering and waiting for suitable conditions. Follow the selected product's application instructions.

Should fertilizer be added with every watering?

Frequency depends on the particular product's instructions, the crop and earlier applications. Plan ordinary watering and nutrient applications separately. Record feeding dates so anyone else caring for the plants has the same information.

Can one pack serve several growing areas?

Yes, when the product's instructions cover the crops and methods involved. Calculate each area separately, then add the requirements for that same product. Check how much remains in an existing pack before buying more.

How can I prepare a late-summer purchase?

List the expected work and review the plants closer to the time. Consider new planting, ongoing active growth and end-of-season work separately. For each job, check the permitted application stage in the product instructions.
